Asians United to Raise Awareness (AURA)

The 2015 Inaugural AURA-AAAS Endowment Fund Registration Award is a gift of Asians United to Raise Awareness (AURA). This fund honors the legacy of AURA and its founding mission: striving for positive social change by funding and developing programs that raise political and cultural awareness about and among the Asian American community. This year, for the first time, the AURA-AAAS Endowment Fund Registration Award allows the Association for Asian American Studies to facilitate community participation in our annual conference by waiving registration fees for non-academic presenters or adjunct faculty. Winners of this award come from one of the following categories: paid staff members of a NGO or community organization; artists, writers, journalists, or filmmakers not employed in a full-time capacity by an educational institution; contingent/adjunct faculty; unaffiliated persons; or undergraduate students.

The AURA AAAS Conference Registration Award will fund a maximum of 20 individuals’ registration fees to support attendance at the 2017 AAAS conference.Awardees’ registration fees will be reimbursed from the AURA-AAAS Endowment Fund. This gift honors the legacy of the Asians United to Raise Awareness (AURA) Fund and its founding mission: striving for positive social change by funding and developing programs that raise political and cultural awareness about and among the Asian American community.To be considered, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a paid staff member of a NGO or community organization; an artist, writer, journalist, or filmmaker not employed in a full-time capacity by an educational institution; contingent/adjunct faculty; unemployed; or an undergraduate student
  • Have been accepted by conference organizers as a presenter or a participant in another official capacity at a 2017 AAAS conference event
