Graduate Student Travel Grant Application

The Association for Asian American Studies (AAAS) will award a travel grant to a maximum of two graduate students to attend the 2016 AAAS Conference (April 27-30, Miami, FL).

Decisions regarding the award will be determined by a subcommittee of the AAAS Board with approval by the full AAAS Board. The subcommittee will consider merit and financial need. Recipient(s) win the cost of the room at the conference hotel site from Wednesday-Sunday, and a reimbursement of his/her paid registration, with the total cost not exceeding $850. The subcommittee will determine on a yearly basis whether to allocate 2 awards at $425 each or one award at $850.

To be eligible for consideration, an applicant must:

  • be a member in good standing of the Association and have an accepted paper for presentation at the conference
  • complete the form below
  • submit a formal letter of application. You may describe any specific financial challenges that might prevent you from attending the conference (e.g., “My graduate funding has run out” or “my institution does not provide any funds for travel”).
  • include an abstract of the accepted paper of no more than 300 words
  • include a letter of support from the student’s dissertation advisor.

All documents should be compiled into a single PDF, in 12-point Times font, with a maximum of 4 pages.

Important Dates: Applications must be received in full by January 15, 2016. Awardee(s) will be notified by February 15, 2016.
