Assistant Professor, Ethnic Studies and Public Administration

University of Hawai‘i at Manoa

Review begins November 20

This position is a joint hire between the Department of Ethnic Studies and the Public Administration Program, with primary responsibilities placed in the Department of Ethnic Studies. This joint position responds to the needs of Hawai’i in preparing our students to address diversity, equity, and inclusion for institutional change and builds upon our strong outreach and engagement with the community and non-profit leadership. It will also contribute to our emerging Creative Audio and Visual Ethnic Studies (CAVES) initiative that trains students in artivism and digital literacy needed to effectively promote social justice. The growth of Oceanic Ethnic Studies represents an investment on the part of UHM to fulfill its kuleana (responsibilities and commitments) to becoming a Native Hawaiian place of learning while also being at the vanguard of educating our multiethnic students about their roots and the historic and ongoing struggles for racial justice in Hawai’i and across the world. We are seeking a candidate whose research and teaching engage Native Hawaiians and/or other Pacific Islanders.
