Assistant Professor (Continuing Track), Department of History/Social Studies Education, University of Delaware

The Department of History at the University of Delaware invites applications for a Continuing Track Assistant Professor position in the Social Studies Education program to begin on August 16, 2023. We are seeking applicants with expertise in social studies teaching whose knowledge and skills will complement and enrich current program strengths. This nationally accredited program prepares future social studies educators and provides professional development opportunities for current social studies educators. The program emphasizes state and national standards; culturally relevant and responsive pedagogies; civic engagement; and engaged, equity-centered community scholarship, instruction, and service. The program also houses the Delaware chapter of the National Council for History Education and has successfully obtained external funding for teacher professional development. Program faculty actively recruit teacher candidates from underrepresented groups and partner with community organizations to represent the histories of Black, Indigenous, Latinx, and other people of color. Continuing track faculty have opportunities to pursue research, are eligible for promotion and sabbaticals, and receive full and generous benefits, including family-friendly benefits, as part of their compensation package.

  • 4) a teaching portfolio with a teaching statement and a sampling of materials that demonstrates effectiveness in a range of teaching experiences;
  • 5) a scholarship statement;
  • 6) a writing sample; and
  • 7) a statement that summarizes past and planned contributions in terms of diversity, equity, and community engagement.
