Ethnic Studies Part-time Instructor Pool, Cuesta College

Deadline: August 30, 2023 and January 31, 2024

Preference will be given to candidates who: 

  • Have interest in teaching college-level, Ethnic Studies courses, such as Introduction to Social Justice and Ethnic Studies, Introduction to Native American and Indigenous Studies, Introduction to Black Studies,  Introduction to Asian American and Pacific Islander Studies, Ethnic Studies for EducatorsWomen of Color, or Critical Whiteness Studies;
  • Have academic or professional work experience in the field of Ethnic Studies and Social Justice.

Evidence of Outstanding Ability as a Teacher
Appropriate evidence includes, but is not limited to, experience, training, or achievement that the candidate has demonstrated: 

  • Commitment to staying current with the latest developments in Ethnic Studies and Social Justice; 
  • The ability to continuously reflect on, evaluate, and improve teaching methods;
  • The ability to organize and explain content/instructions in ways appropriate to students’ abilities and learning styles;
  • Implementation of critical pedagogy (i.e., support students to actively engage in their own learning processes, promote development of critical thinking skills, and encourage students to become lifelong learners);
  • The ability to use instructional methods that emphasize cooperation and collaboration, and reflect cultural sensitivity;
  • The ability to actively engage students from a broad spectrum of cultural, academic, socioeconomic, and language backgrounds;
  • The ability to develop student learning outcomes and methods for assessing students’ achievement of those outcomes;
  • The enthusiasm for, understanding of, and commitment to the role and purpose of the community college;
  • Familiarity with and willingness to expand the use of technology, including effective and meaningful online instruction and open edu
