Global Asias 7 Conference

Penn State and the Global Asias Initiative

Deadline: November 1, 2024

Penn State will host the Global Asias 7 conference in spring 2025. Sponsored by the Global Asias Initiative (GAI) and the Department of Asian Studies, GA7 complements the work of the award-winning journal Verge: Studies in Global Asias and the Global Asias: Method, Architecture, Praxis book series. By bringing into relation work in Asian studies, Asian American studies, and Asian diaspora studies, these Global Asias projects cover Asia and its diasporas, East to West, across and around the Pacific, from a variety of humanistic perspectives—anthropology, art history, literature, history, sociology, and political science—to develop comparative analyses that recognize Asia’s place(s) in the development of global culture and history.

In that expansive and multidisciplinary spirit, we invite panel proposals for the conference, to be held March 21-March 22, 2025.

PANEL SUBMISSION PROCESS

Panel proposals should include a 1-paragraph panel abstract, four paper abstracts (each no longer than 250 words), and the cvs of all panelists. We encourage proposals that embody the expansive mission of Verge’sGlobal Asias project; panels reflecting the varied kinds of diversity cultivated by the journal (geographic, historical, disciplinary, and field) will be especially attractive to the conference organizers. If a panel is accepted for the conference, we will ask a Penn State colleague to serve as the panel chair. The entire proposal should be submitted as a single PDF document to [email protected]. All submissions due by November 1, 2024.

Thanks to the generous support of the Global Asias Initiative, the Department of Asian Studies, and the College of the Liberal Arts, there will be no registration fees to attend the conference.  In addition, we will provide all conference participants with meals and a 1-year subscription to Verge: Studies in Global Asias.
