Search for the Editor of the Journal of Asian American Studies November 25, 2024 The Journal of Asian American Studies (JAAS), the flagship publication of the Association for Asian American Studies (AAAS) is conducting a search for its Editor. Qualifications include being a tenured associate or full professor in any humanities or social science disciplinary or interdisciplinary field with a major research interest in Asian American Studies; a distinguished record of publications; and a current member of the AAAS. The successful candidate will be appointed by the AAAS President on advice of the board, and they will serve as Associate Editor for a year under the current Editor During that time, the associate director will become familiar with the timeline and duties of the editor but is not officially charged with responsibilities for the journal. The editor and associate editor may share some mutually agreed-upon tasks and projects, such as special issues or other projects. Upon completion of the year, the Associate Editor will assume the role of editor for the next two years, and a new associate editor will be appointed by the President with board approval. ROLE OF THE EDITOR Through a working relationship with Johns Hopkins University Press, the Editor is responsible for all aspects of publication associated with maintaining the journal including establishing a vision for the journal in the next few years. The Editor is committed to making sure that the journal maintains its reputation to publish the best peer-reviewed scholarship in all areas covered by the inter-disciplinary fields of Asian American Studies. The Editor is responsible for the selection and substantive editing of journal contents, for three issues per year. RELATIONSHIP WITH THE ASSOCIATION OF ASIAN AMERICAN STUDIES The JAAS Editor will report to the AAAS board regularly on the status of journal submissions and will work to ensure the timely production of each journal issue. The Editor will provide a report to the President of the AAAS in advance of the Fall and Spring board meetings and appear in person at the spring conference to present the report. Applicants should send a CV, three names of references, a cover letter indicating candidate’s vision for the journal and for the field, their ability to take on the editorial tasks as well as the availability of institutional resources (teaching release, student assistance, etc. ) in addition to an honorarium from Johns University Press and AAAS.
